Tips for Lawn Edging

Lawn edging is a beautiful touch that will maximize curb appeal and give your home a well-maintained look. In addition to aesthetics, edging can also serve practical purposes as well. Landscape edging can act as a border to keep mulch or stones in their place, or as a barrier to keep weeds and grass out of a bed. There are many ways to achieve this look and obtain this assistance.

One of the most common forms of lawn edging is the trenched effect. This style is simply a matter of cutting into the ground and creating a trench to border the area. While this edging doesn't quite create the barrier effect, it does give the area a groomed look. Of course, using this type of edging means that it must be maintained and cut out frequently. At the same time, this type of edging makes lawn mowing much easier since you won't need to worry about cutting close to your edging material.

Another type of lawn edging is to use bricks or stones to border your bed or landscaping features. While some people choose to simply lay the stones or bricks around the area, it is also possible to dig out a trench of sorts to secure the border even further. You have many more options when using this sunken method of lawn edging. Bricks or stones may be tilted and buried partially to give the edging a unique look.

In addition, there are plastic or vinyl edging products available as kits in stores. These kits would probably prove to be the easiest style of lawn edging for a first attempt because they include instructions, tips and the necessary items. However, some of these kits will require tools such as a hammer or screwdriver depending on the materials.

There are also borders that appear to look like a miniature fence that can be used as lawn edging. While these borders are usually more expensive, they are also sometimes most appealing. They are available in numerous different materials such as wood, plastic or metal.

It is important to decide what look is desired and plan the landscaping accordingly. Use the type of edging that works best for the specific application. No matter what type of lawn edging is selected, all of these options will help achieve the maintained look while serving as a border for your flower beds or landscaping features.
