Lawn Repair

It is the dream of most homeowners to have a healthy, lush, green lawn. Depending on where you reside, summer may be as brief as three months, leaving very little time to enjoy your yard. It is important to kick off the summer season with a healthy lawn in order to maintain it.

However, if you require lawn repair there are many methods available to you. For lawns that are thin, lawn repair requires grass seed. Overseed the thin areas to thicken them up and prevent weed infestation. In areas that are completely bare, it is best to resod. Laying sod isn’t difficult. A homeowner can do it, and save lots of money. Purchase the sod in pieces at your local nursery. Lay each piece down, tightly butted up against the previous piece. Continue in this way until the bare spot is covered. Then water the sod in completely.

Lawn repair may also involve ridding your grass of insects such as grubs, mole crickets and chinch bugs. You can apply the proper insecticide with a broadcast spreader or in liquid form via your garden hose. Use pesticides sparingly as they are not good for the environment. Sometimes a lawn develops a fungus. This is usually due to overly moist conditions. If you have a sprinkler system and your yard is experiencing fungus, reduce the watering times to once or twice a week. Fungicides can be applied to the suffering areas of your yard also.

Lawn repair may also include irrigation work. As you add more flower beds, walkways, patios or other additions, you’ll need to redirect your sprinklers, or possibly add more sprinklers. By purchasing lengths of PVC pipe, and various connectors, you can easily add more sprinklers to your yard. No special tools are required. Dig the trenches where the pipe will rest. Connect the new PVC to the existing PVC. Add elbows, couplings or tees wherever they’re required. Then choose the proper sprinkler head for the area. There are sprinklers that spray in full circle patterns, half circle, and quarter circles. Some sprinklers are adjustable so you can fine tune them to water small spaces. Rotary head sprinklers spray long distances, and rotate to whatever degree is needed. Fertilizing your lawn will help avoid lawn repair. Apply the right type of fertilizer in the spring, and again in late fall. Be sure to water the fertilizer in completely. Always mow your grass at a tall height. This will help maintain a healthy, lush lawn.
