Have a Bountiful Garden by Protecting its Wildlife Visitors
As a homeowner, one of the most relaxing tasks that you can do is gardening. Not only will the activity manage to relieve some of your stress, but you will also marvel at the feeling once you see that your garden is flourishing.
It doesn’t matter what the size of your garden is. Once the vegetables, flowering shrubs or ornamental plants that you have start growing, you are bound to have some ‘visitors’ from the wildlife. Rather than getting rid of them, they are actually a welcome visitor for your garden because along with the plants, they will maintain that ecological balance in the space that you created.
Now, how can you make sure that the wildlife in your natural garden fauna is well-protected? The first thing that you need to think of is what do they actually need? Just like humans, animals and insects will not survive without food, water and shelter. There are actually a multitude of things that you can do to provide these survival essentials to the wildlife that will be visiting or living in your garden. Take a look at the following list:
- A compost bin is a great feature that will attract spiders, snails, worms and other crawling critters to your garden. When you have compost, they will serve as a food source for birds and they can also enhance the quality of the garden that you have.
- Another feature that you can add to your garden is a frog and toad shelter. Simply put a flower pot upside down, and frogs and toads will easily claim it as their habitat.
- If you have a lot of flowering shrubs, a great way to naturally reproduce them is through pollination. For this, you should make sure that your garden will attract bees. What you can do is drill a few holes on firewood which are stored in your garden, where the bees will take residence in.
- The same thing holds true for hedgehogs which also inhabit fire woods or piles of logs in your garden.
- You can also grow some ivy and other flowering shrubs to attract butterflies and dragonflies on your garden.
- Finally, make sure that there is ample water source for the insects and animals that will reside in your garden.
As you can see, there are a lot of things that you can do in order to protect the natural fauna in your garden. These wildlife visitors are a great way to balance the ecological system in your garden, so welcome them instead of keeping them away.
